MicroLogix 

Micro800 (Micro810, 820, 850, 870)​
Micro Series (Smallest)🟢 Entry-level, lowest cost, very compact.
  • Families: Micro800 (Micro810, 820, 850, 870), older MicroLogix (1000, 1100, 1200, 1400, 1500)
  • Typical Uses:
    • Small machines
    • Standalone equipment
    • Simple automation tasks
  • Key Features:
    • Often all-in-one (CPU + I/O in one box)
    • Limited expansion
    • Low I/O count (usually 10–48 points)
📏 Physical Size: Smallest footprint, like a home Wi-Fi router or even smaller.

CompactLogix

CompactLogix (5370, 5380, 5480)
CompactLogix (Mid-Range)🟡 More modular, medium-scale control, modern platform.
  • Families: 5370, 5380, 5480 CompactLogix
  • Typical Uses:
    • Mid-sized machines
    • Manufacturing cells
    • Complex standalone processes
  • Key Features:
    • Modular I/O (plug-in cards)
    • Supports Ethernet/IP
    • Up to a few hundred I/O points
    • Shares programming platform with ControlLogix (Studio 5000 / RSLogix 5000)

📏 Physical Size: Small rack or modular, slightly bigger than a thick book.

​SLC-500​

SLC-500 (Legacy Mid-Range)🟠 Older modular platform, now phased out.
  • Typical Uses:
    • Was popular for small to mid-sized factories
    • Machine control before CompactLogix era
  • Key Features:
    • Modular rack-based system
    • Limited networking (DH-485, DH+, Ethernet on SLC 5/05)
    • Phased out but still supported in many plants

  • 1746-IA16 (16-point AC input module)
📏 Physical Size:
Medium rack, similar to CompactLogix but older style and bulkier.

ControlLogix (Largest)🔴 High-end, enterprise-level control, most powerful.
  • Families: ControlLogix 5560, 5570, 5580
  • Typical Uses:
    • Large factories
    • Complex process plants
    • Batch systems
    • High availability / redundant systems
  • Key Features:
    • Full modular rack
    • Large memory and processing power
    • Supports thousands of I/O
    • Advanced networking (Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, etc.)
    • Safety controllers available (GuardLogix)
